The Sense8 Community Survived Together

Do you have a favorite TV or Netflix show and wish it never ends?

On June 1st, 2017, many Netflix and Sci-Fi fanatics were shattered after Netflix decided to cancel Sense8. However, 28 days later, it was announced that Sense8 fans would receive a two-hour finale in 2018.

What happened?

If you have not heard of Sense8, it is a two-season Sci-Fi show released on Netflix back in 2015. It has generally favorable reviews from critics and users.

Charlene Li and Josh Bernoff describe online forums for supporting passions, such as movies or series, as a "form of a powerful, collective, impossible-to-ignore action". This action brought Sense8 back to life.

Between June 1st and June 29th, fans from all over the world joined together through Twitter, Netflix, Change.Org, Buzzfeed, and several fan groups in a distinct unified effort to bring the show back.

And it happened.

In an official tweet, the production team confirmed that a two-hour finale would happen for all the fans.

Expectedly or unexpectedly, as indicated by Li and Bernoff, Sense8 fans buzzed about the cancellation, built and consolidated passion. Sense8 fans led Netflix and the producers into giving them an end to the show they love.

We do not know the exact 2018 release date for the grand finale. What we can observe is that hashtags such as #BringBackSense8 and #RenewSense8 continue to be used like when they first emerged in June 2017.

The Sense8 community continues to buzz.

From a marketing perspective, there is much we can learn about the Sense8 phenomenon. Whether Netflix was expecting this strong fan-led reaction or not, they listened, supported, and talked.

As mentioned by Li and Bernoff, it is important for us to support and listen to our subscribers. It is important to talk to our community members and find out what is working and what is not.

The Groundswell has spoken. The producers have listened.

The Sense8 community Survived. Together.

Welcome to Tambo

Did you, growing up, have a small corner store that you loved going to? In 2015, in Peru, the concept of corner stores or bodegas    was forever revolutionized: Tambo  came to life. In case you were wondering, the word Tambo, which comes from the Quechua language , was an Incan structure that contained several supplies. Taking this into a 21st-century scenario, the founders of the Tiendas Tambo    have adapted the original definition into a chain of convenience stores like 7-11 , currently running in Lima, Peru. Just to provide you with a little context , convenience stores in Lima have kept a traditional, old-school vibe.  It is common for families and individuals to go to the small corner store in the block and buy some daily products. At the same time, big and medium-sized supermarkets have grown and made their way into the market, especially in the past 20 years. This enduring change in the supermarket industry in Li...

(Social Media Monitoring Presentation Pt. 1) Avenged Sevenfold and The Stage

Background "It’s pretty much completely aggro. It goes in all sorts of aggressive directions and melodic directions". This was one of the first times that a member of Avenged Sevenfold commented on  The Stage  back in December 2015.  On October 28, 2016, under almost unpredictable circumstances, the band revealed The Stage  to the world. A7x decided to release The Stage   almost unexpectedly , without giving many details prior to its release. "We just really didn't tell anyone, we didn't tell family members, or good ...

Microsoft: An Incomplete Change

Have you ever changed? Was it easy? Li and Bernoff describe the importance of preparing for organizational change and transformation in the context of interactions with customers, or the groundswell . Before Satya Nadella became the new CEO of Microsoft in 2014, the company was seen as not being able "to connect with the new generation of users" . Nadella became CEO to lead an internal change effort to better connect Microsoft employees to its customers. After four years, many argue that Nadella has made Microsoft feel "like a different Microsoft" . Nadella has attempted to bend the company's structure. He believes that this will  keep customers and employees in tune with each other . Is the change effort complete? Li and Bernoff indicate that "when you're tapped into the customer community you get feedback quickly". Organizational innovation is better with the help of customers. Under ...
